DREAM WILD OUTDOOR LEARNING

The Dream Wild Outdoor Learning provision is offered as an alternative provision. We work closely with local schools, PRU units, EOTAS and the borough to embed outdoor learning session into young people's education plans.

Our Outdoor Learning provision empowers young people by encouraging child-led learning through outdoor play and exploration. Our aim is for our participants to develop self confidence, resilience, communication, social interaction, speaking and listening, concentration and creative thinking skills whilst encouraging an empathy with nature.

Being outdoors also improves fine and gross motor skills, encourages independence and explores the awareness of risk taking, as well as improving a young person’s knowledge of the natural environment.

Activities include:

  • Team Building Activities

  • Safe use of tools

  • Fire Safety

  • Lighting and Cooking over a Fire

  • Nature Trails

  • Arts & Crafts using natural materials

  • Woodland Games

  • Den building

  • Woodcrafts

  • Pioneering

We encourage the children and young people to enjoy the outdoors, regardless of the weather and make the most of what nature has to offer. Even on a cold winter’s day, outdoor sessions can run, making the most of the season.

  • Woodland Craft Skills

  • Basic Fire Lighting

  • Tool use in the Woodland

  • Bushcraft

  • Friendships and Relationships

  • And many more.

School Class Days

Dream Wild can provide sessions of outdoor learning and exploration. We can come to your school grounds or you can visit us at Stanton Country Park.

We aim for the children to develop their self-confidence, resilience, creativity and social communication skills. The children will have the opportunity to develop their fine and gross motor skills, their awareness of risk taking and we will encourage their independence.

We will work together to build shelters, use tools safely, build and light fires and even cook over the fire. We will explore the outdoors, whatever the weather so it is important for children to be dressed appropriately. In the case of severe and unsafe weather, Dream Wild will postpone the planned sessions.

ALTERNATIVE PROVISION SERVICES WE DELIVER

Nature & Nurture Project

The Nurture & Nature Project combines both the benefits of nurture groups with that of outdoor learning experiences and forest school practices.

We understand that the education system is not one size fits all and that to reach the children and young people who are falling out of mainstream education, we must drastically change the way we deliver the National Curriculum so that every child really does have the chance to succeed.

The Nurture & Nature Project is an innovative hands-on and specialist learning programme aimed to promote positive outcomes for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.  To read more about the aims of this project please download this information document

School Class Days

We can run outdoor learning sessions as a one off class day or a regular booking throughout a term.

We work with schools to create a tailored programme to suit their individual needs.

Our Outdoor Learning Leader leads on the class days of classes up to 30 pupils alongside the class teacher and/or teaching assistant. We can also provide another experienced staff member at an additional cost.

Holiday Club

We deliver the Dream Wild Holiday Club during all the school holidays. Monday - Friday based at Stanton Country Park.

We are proud to also work with the borough to offer the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. This service allows more families to access our outdoor learning opportunities.

For more information about the Dream Wild Holiday Club please contact us.
